Nominated by Northern Illinois University

Through most of my art school experience, by work has had a great focus on self-reflection, family, nostalgia, and the transitions that go along with the human experience. The four photos I’ve included are from one series which focus’ on how nostalgia can be used to express concerns about the present, provide an escape during unstable or uncertain times, and to find a connection to family history and how that pertains to the individual.  By looking back a connection has been made to people who have passed without our lives overlapping. Ideas such as relationships, locational ties, and objects are used to draw lines through the decades and place oneself in the present while being aware of what has come before and what will come in the future.
